Pullman Reef Hotel Casino's Vertigo Bar Nominated for Award
Australis Pro Audio 22/12/2021 10:00:00 a.m.Cairns’ newest live entertainment hub up for nomination from international publication Mondo*dr
Mondo*dr is one of the leading international publications focused on technology in entertainment. Established in 1990 the magazine has covered some of the most prominent live sound installations around the globe. The Mondo*dr Awards provides a platform to recognise and celebrate the technical marvels that shape today’s entertainment outlets. Split into separate categories, which spans across four geographical territories; an independent panel of judges will announce and present the winners during ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt next year.
Amongst the many nominees include the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino Vertigo Bar in Cairns for the Asia Pacific region. The five-star hotel includes 128 rooms, a roof-top swimming pool, a gym, four restaurants/bars and a boutique casino, it is the largest upscale hotel in the city and delivers a luxurious getaway experience for guests. The Vertigo Bar located on the top level boasts a complete MUSIC sound installation, where Australis specified a high-quality front of house audio system that could fulfil a touring rider specification but also be dynamic enough for acoustic and DJ sets. Additionally, by daytime, the venue is used as a relaxing lounge bar, where the audio equipment needed to be completely unobtrusive to the surrounding environment.
The MUSIC's brands were a significant factor when considering the instalment requirements for the project. As explained by Nik Buchanan of Australis, "There is a real synergy in MUSIC's products that allows us to fit entire venues with products from its portfolio of world-renowned brands. As this bar is used around the clock, we needed something dynamic and powerful; this is where TURBOSOUND comes in."
For the bar's main stage Australis specified Turbosound's Flashline Mini array consisting of two hangs of Turbosound TFS550H, with FLEX ARRAY’s TFA600B, which boast 18” horn loaded subwoofers. Six TFM122 monitor wedges located on the stage along with a NUQ115 and NUQ122. Powering the entire system are the Lab Gruppen D 20:4L, D80:4L, D120:4L and C 28:4 amplifiers. Each of the amplifiers come equipped with Lake Processing DSP, loudspeaker presets for Turbosound’s line arrays and advanced system integrity monitoring.
At the core of the award-winning, D Series is Lab Gruppen’s Rational Power Management (RPM) technology which allows the re-allocation of output power capacity amongst the available channels, leaving any remaining power to be allocated elsewhere. Resulting in extreme cost efficiencies and reduced rack space in applications. Lab Gruppen’s comprehensive CAFÉ Software monitored the entire audio system which also featured an Inter-Sample Voltage Peak Limiter (ISVPL) and a Breaker Emulation Limiter (BEL), which added to the cost-efficient nature of the D Series amplifiers
Since the opening of the Vertigo Bar, the venue has experienced an uptake in patronage and has been lauded as one of the premier locations for live entertainment in the city. Following the recent achievements of the project, Australis will aim to continue that success into next year when the eventual winners will be announced.
